We are starting to create individual Texas native plants profiles and today we will put the spotlight on Flame Acanthus (Anisacanthus quadrifidus var. wrightii),
From the entry:
“A most useful shrub! This Texas native perennial is not only very deer resistant but is also an exceptional wildlife habitat provider (Named Hummingbird Plant in some areas). Flame Acanthus has very modest water requirements, which makes it an ideal candidate for most Xeriscape landscape designs. It is quite versatile and will thrive both in full sun and part shade. A wonderful plant that will brighten yours and your fellow nature critters day. Very hardy and maintenance free: just cut it back after the first frost hits. We always find a place for this beauty in our Xeriscape landscape designs.”
