We are starting to create individual Texas native plants profiles and Texas Redbud (Cercis canadensis var. texensis) is our fifth.
From the entry:
“You really cant go wrong with this small and beautiful Texas native tree. Drought tolerant, this tree provides three landscape intrests: an explosion of very showy flowers at early spring, foliage turns deep gold/red during the fall, purple seedpods appear during the winter! We love designing this tree as a focal point in front flowerbeds. It instantly adds pizzazz to any landscape. Understory installation also look quite attractive. Seeing the first Redbud flowers mean one thing and one thing only: warmer days are upon us! Relatively low Maintenance: prune occasional suckers and for shape if desired”
What do you think about Texas Redbud? Do you grow it yourself? Pictures or insights to share?
